Materials and Particle Systems

Tech art is one of my favorite artistic mediums to work in. Using Unreal Engine 4's robust material and particle tools, I have created both realistic and stylized materials, complex material transitions, and visually engaging particles.

The Magician's Arm:

This experiment in materials and particles was a one-man project, using premade textures and models and using my own materials and particles:

  • Arm and tattoo textures were made using UE4's material editor

  • Particles were created in Cascade

  • Fingers were rigged and animated to make the arm feel more alive

Software used:

  • Unreal Engine 4

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Maya

Centaurus:

My main role when creating the explorable environment was creating materials, lighting, and particles:

  • Material textures were all done in-engine

  • Particle FX and lighting were combined to mesh the effects together for a smoother border between the two, making the world seem more organic

Software used:

  • Unreal Engine 4

  • Adobe Photoshop
